january 2026
hi! hope 2026 has been treating you well so far. i personally just got home from a theremin workshop which was pretty fun. now i'm not afraid of soldering AND own a little noise making thanggg, which might well feature in the new lesbian vampire vn! once i get a power supply -_-. and yeah speaking of which i'm working on a game for this year's queer vampire jam, and it's going mostly well. still a lot to go but i'll hit the deadline for sure. one way or another.
new on the blog: running ganbreeder locally and the yu-no (1996) post.
art
yu-no intoxicated me with pixel art fever. so i went i got my hands into aseprite (hey they made it super easy to build from source now btw!) and proceded to get my ass kicked with a few studies (these are from playboy magazine,la morte vivante, imagination and hermes magazine respectively). i'm improving though. that's what i'm using for the new vn ^_^
also a few friends and i had a little hangout where we just chilled and painted. i made a bunch of pastel drawings that i have not got around to scanning / photographing yet and at this point doubt i ever will lol.
i've had this set of pastels for ages (given to me by an ex-friend lol) but i never really use them because the palette is so not me. but it was fun to play around! it was just good low stakes fun, and yes it did make me a little nostalgic for my painting classes at uni... i was a "productivity" beast back then simply because i was forced into painting. impossible to emulate at home since i am a huge pushover and will just get inertia'd into sitting at the computer all day.
media
games
- justice for all (2006): actually started this one late last month but i forgot to add it to that log. i think it's really funny how bad i am at ace attorney games lol. with the object / profile presenting mechanic i'm never quite able to "say" what i want; not rare for me to lose points even if my deduction is correct. oh well, they're still good fun.
- dead letter dept. (2025): ohohoho. one of the best horror games out there and it's not even close. it's both very cinematic (tight 2 hour runtime helps with that i suppose) and definitely A Game, i really liked how it used the medium. loved the music as well. it's all rather unnerving, delicious! it kinda reminds me of jacob's ladder too...
- sol mates (demo) (2025): man. boring ass and bland looking overcooked! clone. feels like a discord game. sorry yeah i love my friends but i hated it actually.
- event[0] (2016): kinda double featured with dead letter dept., it's also a cool 2 hours. i looove movie games... this is a solid 4 star scifi, i really liked how the ai was implemented, it's very well done.
- yu-no: a girl who chants love at the bound of this world (1996): they're calling 2026 the year of japanese visual novels (i said this to a friend and he said "you read umineko all year last year." which goes to show that you can be factually correct and still deeply wrong), and this is the first of them. full thoughts!
- nonolith (demo) (2025): oof ouchie my brain. really neat puzzle platformer! even if i don't end up getting the full release (i'm not usually in the mood for cryptic platformers i must say), i'm very very excited to see speedruns.
- rhell: warped worlds & troubled times (demo) (2025): i remember seeing some devlog post of this and thinking it looked cool but i lost track of it. glad i stumbled upon it again. however. 1 fps in the fucking main menu... didn't even manage to get into the graphics settings.
- shizuku (1996): an english translation patch just came out and it's actually pretty short (feels endless though... two hours and a half and you can't really pop into tumblr like with bad movies -_-) so i figured i'd check it out. properly forewarned by amelie doree, i just played the true ending / ruriko's route (there's a guide included with the translation, it's ending 8). yeah it's not really worth it. i found the h-scenes particularly interminable and they're back to back and it's just exhausting dog — especially since it's a lot of sexual assault —, they really just feel like they're padding out runtime because the story isn't there. well at least the music is quite nice and the sprites are really charming. i didn't really like the cgs though (not helped by the subject matter).
- the life of saint fiona bianco xena (2021): really fucking cool.
- eden copilots (2025)
movies and series
- surf's up (2007): very first watch of the year, literally like 2am on the first. it's good fun! the brazilian dub is top tier! they don't really make them like this anymore i don't think. awful anti indigenous racism though.
- 16bit sensation: another layer (2023): i was kinda put off by the time travel angle when i first heard of it, but the manga is really fun and i got in the mood to take a look at the anime while playing yu-no. i think the added time travel really makes it come together better as an anime, though it also slows the pace down a little more than i'd like. idk... it's cute and fun but it's got a weird second half.
- the rotting woman (1997): very very beautifully shot zombie short film... there isn't much text but i still do wish it had captions.
- vampyros lesbos (1971): yayy rather confusing vibes based movie of all time.
and i finallyyyy finished a league of their own (2022)... save me women... max... fuckkk what a series of all time.
books and manga
- the roman hat mystery (ellery queen): i'll be honest. this book bored the shit out of me so bad i thought of dnfing basically every time i picked it up. i'm not sure what about it was just so fucking dull, maybe the police proceduralness of it all. idk, i think it lacked character... and it's also really racist.
- my lesbian novel (renee gladman): instantly in my 2026 best-of list. i found myself highlighting seemingly inoccuous sentences; gladman is just that good.
- trans/rad/fem (talia bhatt): hm i think this book kinda falls into that spot where it's just articulating beliefs i already hold or am familiar with, not giving much new insight. nevertheless, the third sex, which i had read before, is definitely the strongest essay here and a very recommended read. i'm pretty interested on her second book too, brown/trans/les.
- ranked comepetitive breast growth (beth leigh-ann and talia bhatt): so fucking funny. "laura is a heterosexual man who is simply and straightforwardly keeping another heterosexual man as a concubine, keep up with the program wtfff". it's so good.
- gilgamesh: a new translation of the ancient epic (trans. sophus helle): finallyyyy getting to gilgy. i'm gilgamaxxing. hey has anyone heard this is really good. i found this translation really nice and approachable, and i haven't finished the essays but they're quite good so far too ^_^
see you soon!
