tumblr, after the end

i was thinking about what'll happen after tumblr's inevitable demise. its format is iconic and unique. irreplaceable not only because of nostalgia, but by the lack of alternatives. twitter & mastodon just dont hit the same. the ultimate blogging can never begin there

#how would reblogs work in this hypotetical static tumblr? #i think you'd just inspect element and copy the post into your blog #and add in what you want #in a way, that'd bring post editing back #also each post would need it's unique id so it can be linked to #it's something you'd do for others to use which i think is nice #like the concious decision of giving your post an id just in case someone wants to reblog it #oh and you could have page breaks as often as you'd like #like maybe you post a lot and do them every 14 days #maybe a month is a page #maybe youre clever with html and even make faux pages every 10-15 posts

this is a layout inspired by the way tumblr taught me to blog. tumblr taught me to say what i want in a pretty way and then continue that thought in the tags, which is noble and objectively the best way to do anything.

#these are the tags of the post #often longer than the post itself because they have a different stream of conscience flow to them // of course in this layout i don't need the hashtags themselves // but they're good dividers // like the stop in a telegram // theyre also symbols im unlikely to use in the text itself // would an unordered list be a good choice? // they get annoying to write in html tho // it'd break the flow of writing// of course with no actual character limit you could go on and on an on but // that's just unnatural // also fun fact tumblr tags can be 139 character max // weird to consider most of the time youre writing multiple tweets just as an aside comment to your post // you just dont get this anywhere else
